The Weathervane Tower Project contrasts nature with artificial methods of landscape surveillance and observation. At the apex of the structure, a wind-driven panoramic video installation is juxtaposed against the static views obtained through the shaft, which faces the four cardinal directions. The steel tower utilizes temporary scaffolding to facilitate the panoramic capture of the surrounding landscape. The body of the tower functions as a viewing apparatus that directs the observer's gaze toward four mirrors, each aligned with a cardinal direction. At the top, fins connect to a mount for a video camera that harnesses wind motion to create dynamic and naturally guided visual experiences. Multiple iterative studies of towers and viewing mechanisms are shown in the gallery.
